I’ve been a registered nurse for over 15 years. Much of that time was spent as a managed care nurse.

If you aren’t familiar, we’re the nurses who work behind the scenes to make sure that patients get the right amount of care at the right time.

This gave me an inside look into how multiple different insurance companies handle appeals behind the scenes.

I got a first hand look at:

• How different companies handled the appeal process
• The different criteria they used when deciding to approve or deny your care
• The differences between those appeals that were successful and those that weren’t

Insurance companies get a bad rap. I’m not saying they don’t deserve it, but it’s not the entire picture.

Often, I saw people not getting the healthcare they needed simply because the insurance company wasn’t getting the information that they needed.

While I certainly can’t fix everything that’s wrong with our healthcare system, I can tell you what you need to know to appeal a denied health insurance claim.
